Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) is a name that reflects the view of ‘committed to academic excellence’. It achieves an identical position in disseminating knowledge. This university is located at Mirpur in the city centre of Dhaka. It is housed in two campuses, only 1 km away from each other. Founded in 2003 it has now been a leading private university which is going to complete its first decade this year. As of February 2013 the total student enrollment is in excess of 7,500. It believes in striving for success and facing upcoming challenges.

The university has diverse disciplines ranging from Business school, Economics, English, Law, Mathematics to the technological subjects like Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology, Textile Engineering and so on. It is accredited by University Grants Commission of Bangladesh and is ranked among the top eight universities of the country in terms of excellent physical facilities.

BUBT possesses a prestigious group of Board of Trustees, most of the members of which are academic personnel. The academicians, along with the other members of business entrepreneurs, professionals and administrators always give their strong support to maintain the quality of the university. The university was founded under the initiative of Dhaka Commerce College, a renowned college of the country in the year 2003. The members of the BUBT Trust are Professor Dr. Shafiq Ahmed Siddique (the Chairman of the trustee Board of BUBT), Mr. AFM Sarwar Kamal, Prof Md. Ali Azam, Prof. Kazi Md. Nurul Islam Faruky, Mr. Ahmed Hossain, Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, Lieutenant General Dr. AKM Zafrullah Siddiq (Retd.), Prof. Mian Lutfar Rahman, Mr. ABM Abul Quashem and Prof. Md. Enayet Hossain Miah. The objective of BUBT has always been strengthened by developing excellence in teaching and learning and it strives to produce competent graduates in areas of Arts, Engineering and Business School. It was intended to build a modernized university of the country, the curricula of which were designed after North American syllabi. The comprehensive and up to date teaching and fair educational environment inculcate critical power, values and wisdom, necessary for making a forward looking and coherent society. The life of BUBT is not all about academics and study alone rather it is enriched by activities and experiences inside and outside the classroom. The clubs and organizations are open to membership for all students. Social welfare club, Cultural club, Debating club, Games and Sports club and so on are the abode of students’ co-curricula and extra curricula activities.

In the area of technological contests the teams of BUBT always go ahead. ACM-ICPC is the largest contest in the field of computer programming. BUBT is not lagging behind in this case. The teams of BUBT not only participate in such contests but they bring spectacular achievements as well. This is also a matter of great delight that the university has earned the pride of becoming an international venue of ACM-ICPC Asia Regional Contest in 2014. Taking part in the national and international contests at home and abroad the students of the CSE department lead the name of the university to a prestigious position. The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences has sound physical facilities. The Computer Laboratory, Communications Engineering Laboratory, Physics Lab, Electrical Circuit Lab, Electric Machine Lab, Microwave Engineering Lab, Microprocessor and Interfacing Lab, Simulation Lab and many more, create ample opportunities for the students to work in a favourable environment. A good number of dedicated and sincere faculty members are the strength of BUBT. These highly qualified teachers are from the renowned public and private universities of the country. Many of them completed their higher education from abroad. Some of them are still pursuing their higher studies in different foreign countries. The students are always intensively cared by the faculty members of the university. Special classes are also taken for the weaker students. So the students always feel at ease with the educational environment of the University.

BUBT has rich library collections. It encompasses two libraries placed in the two campuses that provide sufficient information to the students, teachers and researchers as well. International journals, magazines, newspapers and an envious number of volumes are the indispensable source of information. The university has some on-campus publications which invites scholarly articles from the writers of home and abroad. BUBT Journal contains articles and research papers from different disciplines. Its regular publication creates opportunity for the faculty members to express their intellectual and analytical views. Android, a magazine, particularly books the information on technology and technological events.
